Horticulture Class is Selling Poinsettias

By: Carly McIntyre

Mr. Fisher’s Horticulture class is raising poinsettias for Christmas to sell to area churches, the general public, and they also donate to the senior citizen luncheon. The band will also use them to decorate for their Christmas concert. The Horticulture class starts to grow the plants the first week of school. Throughout the semester, they learn about how to take care of the plants and about what conditions need to be provided to get the poinsettias to turn the right color. The money raised goes into the FFA fund and is used to buy replacement plants and supplies for the greenhouse. Senior Nathan Meinhardt said, “I think this is a great project to make money for supplies and I love learning about plants and how to take care of them.” The 10 inch pots are $10 and the 6 inch pots are $5. They have 5 different varieties that include white, red, pink, marble, and peppermint. Junior Kaylen McDowell said, “I am so ready for the flowers to go on sale so I can buy some, they are so beautiful!” If anyone is interested you may contact Matt Fisher at fisherm@wesclin.k12.il.us!
